A bit of history….
What is Thai Massage? The ancient massage practice dates back to around 2,500–7,000 years ago. It has been practiced and evolved in Thailand for over 2,500 years. This ancient healing practice (Nuad Boran) originated in India with influences from the traditional medicine systems of India, China and Southeast Asia. This ancient healing system has strong roots with Buddhist spiritual practice; such as offering healing therapy for mindfulness, loving kindness and compassion.
What is Traditional Thai Massage?
The technique is very different to a Swedish or shiatsu massage. The fundamental difference is that with a traditional Thai massage, the clothed client lies on the floor and participates more actively during the massage. Through assisted yoga, the body is moved in ways that are difficult to attain through normal exercise and individual practice.
Each body part is stretched allowing greater movement and effectively getting rid of any muscle stiffness and fatigue.
Furthermore, the yoga-like techinque of deep relaxed breathing helps to bring balance and a peaceful state of mind. These are also known as principles of mindfulness (breath awareness) and loving kindness (focused compassion).
The benefits of all these techniques are shared by both the practitioner and client. A full-body massage session is often a very exhilarating, powerful body and mind experience. It brings both the recipient and the practitioner to greater states of physical and mental well-being.
How does it work?
Chinese medicine and acupressure philosophy believe that life is sustained by a vital force (lom) carried along 72,000 invisible energy lines (sen) that run through our bodies. Its thought that disease and dysfunction occur when blockages occur along these pathways. During a Thai Massage, blockages of these energy pathways are stimulated with pressure points to increase energy flow. Working on these energy lines helps to restore balance, harmony to the body and promote general wellbeing.
Feeling low in energy or down? Then a full body massage session could help you release and free this trapped energy. Let us help you stimulate the natural flow of life-force and help you bring balance to the force.
